How to change .config setting in PYNQ build process

PYNQ 2.7 & PYNQ 3.0.1
Board = Custom

I would like to customize different kernel setting during image build.
What is the proper way to adjust such setting?

Could provide more clue.
It is possible to manually just add the line in the sdbuild folder:

PYNQ/sdbuild/boot/meta-pynq/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-xlnx
pynq.cfg etc.

But what is the proper way to adjust these settings from the make command or script file?
