PYNQ: PYTHON PRODUCTIVITY FOR ZYNQ

Struggling to successfully boot Pynq SD Card Image

I’ve got a ZCU111 board and I’m trying to run the pre-built Pynq v2.4 ZCU111 image on it. I’ve had it successfully running in the past, and I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.

I download/extract the prebuilt zip/image from Xilinx. My host PC is Windows 10 64-bit. I’m using Win32 Disk Imager 1.0 to write the .img file to the SD card. I’ve tried multiple SD cards, 8GB and 16GB. Including one that previously worked (~3 weeks ago or so, last time I tried).

Now when I boot and look at the serial console, it always seems to stop around here or some version of an exception dump/stack trace after:

I’ve tried re-downloading the v2.4 image, doesn’t seem to make a difference. I know my board is capable of booting (it has in the past), plus the RF Data Converter Eval image that came with it on another SD card still boots fine.

Any things I can try?

Thanks for the detailed report. I’ve compared your log with my own (successful) boot and everything looks fine up until it freezes for you.

Do you happen to have any Vivado windows open with the hardware manager running? This causes a similar problem for me, related to this answer record. If so, could you close those windows and try again?

Otherwise, can you share which revision of the ZCU111 board you have? It should be printed on the board. I’ll try to get my hands on one and do some more testing.

That was it! Probably would have never figured that out, but I had the Vivado HW manager running. Thanks for chiming in, this problem was driving me crazy and my search criteria didn’t lead me anywhere close to this solution.
